About Academic Enrichment Instruction

Language Art/Mathematics

Academic Enrichment Instruction is a supplemental program that provides assistance in all areas of language arts and math. The AEI instructor reinforces, reteaches, and breaks down skills learned in class so students better understand what has been taught. The AEI program is limited in class size to zero in on and better address the students' needs.

Academic Enrichment Program

The Academic Enrichment Program is designed to assist students in the basic skills needed to be successful in class.  Skills are broken down are and taught in small steps to ensure understanding of the process.  AEI zeros in on problem areas in language arts and math.  Whether the struggle is with phonics, fluency, comprehension, or writing, each class is geared toward the skills the classroom teacher feels needs the most attention.  In math AEI basic facts are reinforced and new skills are presented in step-by-step methods to a small group of students.  Students are given group as well as one-on-one attention as needed.

Miss Voros instructs the K-2 students and  Mrs. D’Addona is the 3-5 instructor.

Both teachers address the needs of the K-1 students in the early morning classes.

While attending AEI classes, students do not miss any new classroom instruction.  The schedule is designed to be done at a time when new instruction is not taking place in the classroom.

There is no homework assigned in AEI; however, students are encouraged to read aloud to a parent every night for at least ten minutes and to practice their facts in math at least three nights a week.  Reading aloud gives the parent the opportunity to check their child’s fluency as well as pronunciation and decoding of unknown words,  Kindergarten through second grade students should also practice sounding out CVC words and spelling RED words correctly since they cannot be sounded out. Mastering math facts, addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, is key to performing all math operations quickly as well as being able to tackle new math skills including problem solving and fractions. Practicing these facts at home will help your child to master them more quickly.

Miss Voros and Mrs. D’Addona enjoy working with their students and make learning fun.  They can be reached at any time by email or calling the school.
